Plevin British Showjumping Scope Festival - Saturday Round Up

The week-long extravaganza at Stafford showground concluded with an exciting finale. In an electric, nail-biting jump-off standing at 1.60m, Cheshire-based Irishman Anthony Condon landed the British Showjumping national championship with Sue Davies’s eight-year-old Special Lux.

Ellen Whitaker claimed second with an exciting new ride of five weeks. Old Lodge’s Zanzibar V displayed scope and talent over the huge track despite his inexperience.

A steadier clear earned Keith Shore and Stranger third in the 12 horse jump-off.

Jess Mendoza beat 18 others in a hotly contested, 19 pony jump-off to take the Great Coffee Dunglenn championship on Razorlite.

It was the one title that, until now, has eluded Jess, 2012 European pony team gold medallist with Tixylix – her top pony and a former HOYS and Olympia champion who finished fourth here.

Darby Ward and Enzo III took second, just ahead of Emily Ward and Wizard VIII.

Sian Price lifted the coveted British Showjumping Business Partnership national six-year-old title with the British-bred Lucy Loo IV.This mare, bred by Queen’s Cup winner Keith Doyle, is by Luidam – a former HOYS Foxhunter champion with John Popely who went on to be an International star for Ireland’s Billy Twomey.

Louise Saywell and Susan Platts’ Ardenteggle Poltarf shaved corners to the bare minimum to head the Halsall Electrical grade C championship in a hotly contended jump-off. The nine-year-old mare – third with Stephanie Platt’s in the 2011 Blue Riband final – joined Louise in July.

Long-time leader Paul Barker took second with Lux Fabulous and Keith Shore’s late challenge on Rubiroso JX netted third.

A busy Charlotte Foreman set out as favourite with three contesting the Autostop Adventurer championship. And Venus UK duly came to the fore to take the title, with second ride Custinov in third.

William Walker successfully executed a virtually impossible tight inside turn to get ahead in the Tacklockers.com pony British novice final. And it paid handsomely as T Rifle was declared the 2012 champion in the 21 pony jump-off.

Matilda Deakin, 9, was riding on the crest of a wave with the evergreen 128cm Forever Penny. The newly-crowned 128cm primary champion found the shortest route to also take the Shaw Farm Stud tiny tots title and win a cuddly toy bear.

Three excited riders took last-minute HOYS 128cm qualification after recording just three first-round clears. Jack Whitaker on Barnee Rubble, Georgia Taylor-Jones riding Top Gun XI and Sandy McLean with Tatty Desire will now take their place in the NEC final.

The Suffolk Saints claimed the national team jumping. Colin Keeling on Crichta, Rikki Graldey with Calakonda, Claire Hansen riding Andersons Almare Marius and Emily Hilton’s Assy Sina conjured up a zero score to take the title.

The Bilton Ward mighty and midgets masters relay had the audience at fever pitch as the pairs attempted to out-race each other. Sponsors daughters Taylor Ward on Ballindooley Queen and Darby Ward with Cassi Go emerged as the winners.
